Ode to the Burgundy Cottage!

Fundy Park 2018
This September I enjoyed another of our annual "Girls Hiking Weekends" in Fundy National Park. Six of us have been doing this for over 20 years! Our awesome girls "getaway" includes hiking, of course, as well lots of down time with great conversation and the odd glass of wine.

A welcome brewskie after a long and difficult hike!

Our new digs.
New Digs!
This year we were shocked to learn that the accommodation we've had for the last 10 years was no longer available. While our "new digs" were very nice and perfectly adequate, we missed the charming, spacious, two story, two bathroom cottage we had before, on a cliff overlooking the Bay of Fundy.

"Our" burgundy cottage.

So you can see from a quick photo comparison why we loved our burgundy cottage. It was just like home; comfortable living space with a full kitchen and all the amenities, including a great collection of wine glasses and big tea pot, tea cozy included! All six of us enjoyed the full bath with heated floors as well as the second powder room up stairs.

A nice big table for dinner …. or scrabble?

A wood stove for the chilly nights.

Oh burgundy cottage, how we miss you!

Since our beloved cottage was very close to where we were staying, three of us decided to sneak over and check it out. Like bandits in the dark, with only our cell phones to light the way, we padded down the dark driveway to take a peek. Pressing our noses to the windows like children looking at toys in a store, we saw that our little Shangri-La was the same as always. What nostalgia we felt for all the good times we had in that place! I felt like a wayward child who had been disowned and banished from their home.

Oh well ….. as they say,  I guess you don't know what you've got till it's gone.  At least we have each other and will continue to enjoy our precious girls weekend no matter where we are!
