Foraging at Christmas!
We built our house 18 years ago on a lot full of fur trees and chose to cut down only what was necessary in order to have more privacy. While I like the privacy, many of the scraggly trees have been a bit of an eyesore to me. The Old Man's beard and branches full of lichen have made my "eyes sore" for several years. The wispy bits of moss don't look any better on the trees than they do on the guys on Duck Dynasty!
However, I have discovered a new appreciation for the "scraggle"! A few weeks ago, when I was visiting my son and his family I noticed a lovely little Christmas wreath (my copied version above) in their home that featured "foraged" material just like the stuff in my back yard!
Well, as you can imagine, I couldn't wait to get home and harvest all this great stuff that I had been labeling as an "eyesore" and start creating with it.
When you look at the moss and lichen up close, you really can see the beauty in it! With a little imagination and a bit of Christmas, somehow my eyes are not sore any more.
Checkout this great video on using moss etc. to create a wreath, that, with a seasonal addition would be great for many occasions!
