Looking Ahead to Christmas

My diy Christmas pillows from thrifted shirts and sweaters. The wee bear was made by my friend Diane, who's skill level exceeds mine!

How slack I've been with this blog! Yesterday I got in touch with a friend who I had not heard from in a while. She got back to me saying that she was about to do the same thing since she had checked my blog to see if I was still alive .... and there was no indication that I was!

Where did the lovely fall weather go? I must say I had a few stunners this fall in the plant department. Some gorgeous flowering kale and million bells that lasted well into late fall (the kale is still going strong)!

Hiking Adventures

Our usual hiking weekend to Fundy National Park this year was especially enjoyable since we spent an extra day (Friday to Monday) and a few weeks ago four of us spent a wonderful afternoon exploring a coastal trail only 30 minutes from home.

Fun With Succulents and Foraging

My husbands says that some old ladies have cats ..... I have succulents!

I think he may be right as I have been obsessed with these sweet little plants that require very little care and can be transplanted many times into new creations. They can even be glued to driftwood, rocks, or tops of pumpkins!

"pot in a pot" - I've seen this many times and just wanted to try it.

Driftwood arrangement

The lush abundance of summer plants may be done but we can still find beauty and interest in the elements of nature that are evident, now that the show offs have left the stage. The red dogwood below was cut on the side of a road in the country and the greenery all foraged from our yard. I used some old man's beard, bits of tree moss and Virginia creeper vine in an attempt to give our rustic bird houses a festive look.

As winter approaches I see a renewed interest in houseplants on the horizon ..... perhaps a terrarium? Heaven forbid, maybe even a spider plant! Yikes!
